For 5 years, I've worked as an accountant, with the goal of becoming a tax consultant later. I did the bookkeeping for other businesses. I saw their adventurous journeys, their numbers and goals. When I was 24, I knew it wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Too much work for too little money and freedom. What was a dream for others, was hell on earth to me. So, I quit. Today, I'm glad I learned how to do bookkeeping, and read numbers in a certain way. But only for my own business adventures. If you are already running your own business, or plan to do so, I have one tip for you: Don't reject to prepare your books for your accountant. Learn the basic rules of accounting for understanding your business. You don't have to do everything yourself. But at least, prepare your revenue documents, receipts, bank statements, and hand it over to your accountant in proper order. You will see the cashflow, expenses, and other activities in a new light. Talking to the authorities, controlling your records and more strategic planning still gets done by your accountant and tax consultant. Having this kind of connection to your business, its lifeblood, is essential to grow as a business owner. It shouldn't get pushed away entirely to someone else. Keep this in mind while you move forward on your entrepreneurial journey. See you tomorrow! —Wolfgang |
